Veep unveils blueprint to supercharge Ghana’s tourism and creative economy

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang embarked on a working visit to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, underscoring the government’s commitment to harnessing the country’s rich cultural heritage and economic potential.

During her visit, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang met with directors and heads of agencies, emphasizing the need for unity and collaboration to drive economic growth.

Minister of Tourism Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie briefed her on significant strides, including the launch of the Black Star Experience, promotion of local crafts, and a national photography competition showcasing heritage sites.

“We must promote made-in-Ghana products, because identity and industry should reinforce each other,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed, highlighting the importance of integrating cultural identity with industrial growth.

She also urged closer collaboration with the Food and Drugs Authority to unlock the potential of Ghanaian foods and encouraged service providers to leverage the 24-Hour Economy framework to create jobs and decentralize opportunity.

She emphasized the significance of language in shaping expression, marketing culture, and maintaining identity. She encouraged the Ministry to explore Ghana’s landscapes, fauna, heritage sites, castles, and forts, which hold untapped tourism value and powerful historical narratives.

“Our approach is to come to you, to listen, to learn, and to work with you,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated, reaffirming government support for the sector.
