One individual has passed away, while multiple others are in serious condition after a frontal crash involving two commercial trucks at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
The incident included a Ford bearing the registration number AW 3264-21 and a Toyota Hiace with the registration number AS 3552-20.
As reported by witnesses, the Toyota Hiace, en route to Kumasi, veered out of control while speeding and struck the Ford, which was traveling from Kumasi to Ejisu.
The collision resulted in serious injuries for those in both cars. Included among the victims were two high school seniors who were on their way to school.
All wounded passengers were quickly taken to Living Waters Hospital, where one individual was declared dead upon arrival.
“Many of the passengers were injured, some with broken hands and legs. All the seats in the car were damaged,” an eyewitness, Michael Asante, said.
Updating on the condition of the victims, the Medical Director of Living Waters Hospital, Dr. Gabriel Sekyi Kwofie, stated that the facility admitted 31 victims, among whom was an elderly man thought to be in his 70s who passed away soon after arriving.
Dr. Kwofie reported that 11 of the victims are presently in the operating room, with additional patients anticipated to have surgery. He mentioned that two victims are believed to have incurred head injuries, whereas others experienced several cuts.
He additionally disclosed that among those hurt were two students. A Form Three student from Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School was on their way to school from Dwenase and is now in stable condition after suffering minor injuries. The other is a nursing student from the Ntotroso Nursing Training College, heading to the Ejisu Government Hospital for clinical practice.
Dr. Kwofie observed that many of the victims lack National Health Insurance or the financial resources to pay for their treatment.
