Cardiothoracic surgeon and party member Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has issued a scathing indictment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership, stating that he will not be coerced into quitting the organization he helped build.
Today, Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation addressed claims that the National Executive Committee (NEC) is attempting to oust him for calling the present party structure “fake” in an interview with Ekosiisen on Asempa FM.
Instead of giving in, the Professor unleashed a new barrage of criticism, arguing that the current leadership, not him, ought to be dismissed.
The pressure arises after several recent interviews in which Prof. Frimpong-Boateng referred to the re-election of specific leaders as a disaster and depicted the party’s trajectory as essentially ruined.
When questioned about whether he would resign in advance to escape the shame of expulsion, his reply was defiant.
“No! I’m not leaving the party; they should leave the party [because] they are the fake ones,” he declared. “They should go away and the true party will stand.”
He categorically declared that he had no intention of appearing before any committee to defend his remarks, dismissing the NEC’s disciplinary actions as a diversion.
He went on to say, “I will not honor any invitation from the NEC to waste my time,” indicating that his relationship with the party’s administrative wing had completely collapsed.
The professor’s criticism stems from his conviction that the NPP has strayed significantly from its core values of institutional integrity and liberal conservatism.
He maintained that a total elimination of the “fake” elements at the top is the only way to stop the party’s current terminal slide.
“We must accept that the NPP is destroyed; this was not how the party was in years past,” he lamented. “They should exit so that the young men and women with love for the party will rebuild.”
Since the NPP became a minority in Parliament following the 2024 general elections, the divide between Frimpong-Boateng and the party has grown considerably.
The Professor has been accused by the party’s critics, lead by General Secretary Justin Frimpong-Kodua, of “anti-party behavior” and public disparagement, which they say is against the NPP Constitution.
But the Professor’s fans contend that his “tell-all” strategy, which started with his infamous report on illegal mining (galamsey), is a necessary purification for a party that is currently experiencing internal strife ahead of its presidential primary on January 31.
