A State Department official announced on Wednesday that the Trump administration is suspending all visa processing for applicants from 75 nations.

The strategy, which was initially revealed by Fox News and referenced a State Department memo, was not further explained by the spokeswoman.

According to Fox News, the halt will start on January 21.

The report lists the affected nations as Somalia, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, Brazil, Nigeria, and Thailand.

While the agency reviews its policies, the memo instructs U.S. embassies to deny visas in accordance with current legislation. There was no time frame given.

Since taking office in January of last year, Republican U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a broad immigration crackdown, which coincides with the alleged delay.

Trump had promised to “permanently pause” immigration from all “Third World Countries” in November after an Afghan national shot and killed a National Guard soldier close to the White House.
