Kennedy Ohene Agyapong is the front-runner in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) next presidential primary, according to a recent report by financial economist and lecturer Dr. Evans Duah.
This could indicate a change in the party’s internal dynamics after its 2024 election defeat.
31,556 of the 40,988 delegates surveyed in the three rounds of the study, which covered all 16 regions, were verified.
Agyapong leads with 52.59% of delegate support, while former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia follows with 36.24%, according to the poll’s last wave, which took into consideration the best-case distribution of undecided voters.
The report emphasizes Agyapong’s “largest positive net movement,” primarily due to robust involvement in delegate-dense areas like Ashanti and Greater Accra.
Dr. Duah indicated that the results depict a “structured consolidation” stage, in which delegates evaluate candidates according to their coalition-building abilities and capability to restore the party’s electoral success.
Bawumia’s drop in backing is associated with difficulties in growing influence in the southern areas, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s increases have impacted margins without endangering the leading positions.
Bawumia’s decline in support has been linked to challenges in expanding influence in the southern regions, whereas Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s gains have affected margins without threatening the top positions.
“This isn’t just numbers; it’s a narrative of resilience,” “Agyapong’s ground-level strategy and outreach to delegates appear to be driving his lead,” Dr. Duah stated.
According to the report, choosing the party’s flagbearer would depend heavily on contenders’ capacity to rally support and win over undecided delegates as the January 31 primary draws near.
