Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu, the nominee for the Asante Mampong Paramount Stool, formally took the oath of loyalty to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, January 19, 2026.
After the oath-taking ceremony, he was officially announced as the Asante Mamponghene and took the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, becoming the new Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong.
At the ceremony, leaders from different sectors of the Asante Kingdom encouraged the new Mamponghene to maintain peace, unity, and collaboration as essential foundations for the progress of Asante Mampong.
They urged him to stand strong against unlawful mining operations on his property, a position firmly supported by his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III vowed to follow the path of his predecessor and dedicate himself to fostering development and stability in the traditional area.
He is the 17th holder of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a role seen as second-in-command in the Asante Kingdom when the Asantehene is not present.
On December 18, 2025, the kingmakers of Asante Mampong and the Mampong Queen Mother formally introduced Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene as the selected candidate for the Mampong throne.
