Alexander Afenyo Markin, the leader of the Minority in Parliament, has urged the majority to provide the minority greater chances to participate in legislative advocacy when Parliament reconvenes.
The call for more inclusivity in parliamentary procedures was made at a leadership media briefing prior to to the start of Parliament on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
“We hold the view that in this meeting, the majority should be more accommodating; they must hear us. They must allow the minority to do more advocacy. We expect the Speaker to admit more and more of our motions,” Afenyo Markin stated.
He pointed out that a large portion of the previous year’s legislative session was marked by dissatisfaction, as motions were routinely rejected, making it difficult for the minority to make significant contributions.
“We think that the essence of parliamentary politics is to give every party stakeholder the opportunity. We look forward to much more engagement on the floor,” Afenyo said.
