Alleged vote buying and selling during this year’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries have been the subject of investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The OSP said in a public notice dated February 8, 2026, that it had begun looking into the NDC parliamentary primaries held at Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026, and the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026.
“The investigations focus on allegations of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of funding of the alleged corrupt acts,” the OSP stated.
The statement claims that in spite of allegations of election maulpractice and intimidation, the anti-corruption agency also opened a real-time probe during the NDC primaries in Ayawaso East.
The OSP also disclosed that Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, one of the candidates in the NDC parliamentary primaries, allegedly encouraged some people to assault an officer conducting an investigation into vote buying and selling.
“During the conduct of the NDC parliamentary primaries… one of the candidates allegedly abetted thugs to physically attack an officer of the OSP,” the notice said.
Consequently, an extra inquiry into the alleged attack of the authorized officer while doing their duties has been initiated by the Office.
“Consequently, the OSP has opened further investigation into the assault of an authorised officer of the OSP in the performance of his functions,” it added.
The public was reminded by the OSP that election-related corruption is still illegal in Ghana.
“The law prohibits corrupt acts in relation to public elections. It is a serious offence to engage in vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and acts of violence,” the statement emphasised.
When there is evidence to justify a prosecution, the OSP said it will continue to look into all credible claims and take appropriate legal action.
