The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially nominated Baba Ali Yussif as its candidate for the parliamentary seat in the Ayawaso East by-election set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
In a statement released on Monday, February 9, 2026, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party announced that the choice was made following “extensive consultations” by its National Executive Committee (NEC) with important stakeholders to agree on a consensus candidate.
The NEC established a Candidate Search Committee, led by former NPP General Secretary John Boadu, to involve stakeholders in both the constituency and the Greater Accra Region.
The party announced that following the discussions, the committee “unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, the current Constituency Secretary of the Party, as the most suitable candidate.”
It stated that the recommendation was approved during an extended Constituency Executive Committee meeting and a Delegates Conference in the constituency on Sunday, February 8, 2026, where delegates “unanimously praised” him as the party’s candidate.
The NPP characterized Baba Ali Yussif as “a seasoned educator” and “one of the longest-serving Constituency Secretaries in the Greater Accra Region,” along with being “a grassroots organizer and a dedicated proponent of development.”
The party called on its members and supporters to rally around him before the elections, claiming that he embodies the party’s “greatest chance to achieve success in the upcoming by-election.”
The NPP urged Ayawaso East residents to cast their votes for him, stating it aims to “bring back hope, meaningful representation, and wealth to the Constituency.”
