The government has declared a decrease in the cocoa producer price, establishing it at GH¢41,392 per tonne amounting to GH¢2,587 per bag—for the rest of the 2025/2026 crop season.
The decision, sanctioned by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), goes into effect starting Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, February 12, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson clarified that the choice was based on current circumstances in the global cocoa market.
He mentioned that the change mirrors existing global cocoa prices and aims to rebuild trust within the industry.
The Minister also stated that the updated rate is anticipated to provide immediate cash flow into the cocoa value chain, assisting in expediting payments to farmers who have faced delays lately and alleviating financial burdens at the farm level.
He indicated that the price revision is a component of wider reforms aimed at securing the long-term viability of Ghana’s cocoa sector. He referred to the action as essential for stabilizing the industry, enhancing its financial position, and ensuring improved results for cocoa growers.
“As a result of that, the PPRC thereby announces that effective today, Thursday 12th February 2026, the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025–2026 crop season will now be 41,392 Ghana Cedis per ton and 2,587 Ghana Cedis per bag,” he said.
The updated rate signifies a decrease from the original price declared at the beginning of the 2025/26 crop season.
The producer price was set at US$5,040 per tonne, reflecting a 62.58 percent rise in dollar value. In cedi terms, that equates to GH¢51,660 for each tonne or GH¢3,228.75 for a bag.
