The International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) has permanently removed the Red Notice it issued for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta following a request from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), as disclosed by legal representatives of the troubled former official.

In a statement published , Friday, February 13th, 2026, Ofori-Atta’s lead attorney, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo from the law firm Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, announced that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been informed by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) about the removal.

The attorneys stated that the oversight commission of the international police organization concluded that the request for Ofori-Atta’s arrest “appears of a predominantly political character” and did not adhere to the organization’s stringent neutrality guidelines.

The decision, announced in the CCF’s 135th Session on 4th February 2026, marks a notable turn in the state’s attempts to extradite the former minister, who is at the heart of a multi-billion Ghana cedi inquiry concerning Ghana’s economic management and contentious agreements.

Ofori-Atta’s team further remarked that the CCF’s conclusion was founded on a comprehensive review of the information recorded by Ghana’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB).

According to Article 3 of INTERPOL’s Constitution, the organization is explicitly prohibited from engaging in any interventions or activities that are political, military, religious, or racial in nature.

Ofori-Atta’s attorneys stated that the Commission determined the disputed information submitted by Ghana was “not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules.”

“After a thorough examination of the elements before it, the commission found that the challenged data registered by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) of Ghana were not compliant with INTERPOL’s rules and decided that they should be deleted from the INTERPOL information system,” Mr Ofori-Atta’s lawyers quoted the CCF.

The pursuit of Ken Ofori-Atta has been fundamental to the government’s campaign against corruption.

The government launched inquiries into numerous prominent financial dealings during Ofori-Atta’s time, which caused Ghana’s debt to soar past GH¢600 billion and resulted in a record $3 billion IMF rescue package.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s attorneys have consistently maintained that the allegations aimed at their client were a political retaliation intended to blame the former minister for wider global economic challenges.

The irrevocable removal of the Red Notice essentially permits Ken Ofori-Atta to travel internationally without restrictions, making it more difficult for the Attorney-General to achieve his physical return to Ghana via international collaboration.
