Wa High Court hands life sentence to serial killer after pleading guilty to 23 murders

The Wa High Court has sentenced a man to life in prison with hard labour after he confessed to murdering 23 individuals in various communities within the Upper West Region.

The offender, named Shariff Abdulai, popularly known as “Christos,” confessed to killing 16 individuals in Wa and five in Bole, along with one person each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi, as stated by the Ghana Police Service.

Authorities stated that Abdulai was apprehended on 6 October 2025, after prolonged intelligence-driven operations and inquiries.

He was later brought before the High Court on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, following committal proceedings at the District Magistrate Court.

Throughout the proceedings, the defendant had legal representation and admitted guilt to the allegations. Judge Osie-Wusu Antwi sentenced him to life in prison with hard labour.

Officials indicated he will complete his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The police command reiterated its dedication to maintaining the rule of law, stating it would persist in measures to guarantee the safety and security of citizens.
