Mahama directs security services to increase recruitment from 20,000 to 40,000

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered an increase in current receuitment for the security services after a high-level discussion with leaders of the security agencies.

According to the statement from the presidency on Monday, March 16, the President convened with security leaders, the Interior Minister, and the Acting Defence Minister to assess the current recruitment process within the security agencies.

After a briefing on the process, President Mahama directed that the recruitment of personnel be significantly expanded.

The statement indicated that “the number of men and women to be recruited to the various security agencies should be increased from twenty thousand (20,000) to forty thousand (40,000) over a four-year period.”

The President stressed the importance of integrity in the recruitment process. He directed the leadership of the security services to guarantee that the exercise is carried out with the utmost standards of accountability.

“The Heads of the Security Agencies [must] ensure transparency and fairness in the recruitment process,” the statement said.

The National Security Coordinator, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, the Secretary to the President, and the Chief of Staff were among those in attendance.

The Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Director-General of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission were also present.
