According to Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the chairman of the National Democratic Congress, the opposition party has grown significantly under his leadership.
He claims that the party has gained a lot of popularity and is launching novel projects that have never been done before in its history.
In an interview with Asempa FM on September 22, Ofosu-Ampofo reiterated that the party’s chairmanship would remain unchanged and that the NDC would do everything it took to unseat the New Patriotic Party in 2024.
“Nothing will change about the chairmanship of the NDC. The track record is there. The performance is there. We have made the party attractive, things that are happening in the NDC today, since 1992 some have not happened before.
“We are conducting branch elections today. Members of Parliament and national officers are present to oversee the election. It is unusual in this nation’s history, it is happening under my watch, and I think the NDC is getting stronger. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo predicted that the NDC would form the next administration in 2024.
He responded that he was unsure but will choose forms to run for reelection when the party opened nominations when questioned about running the race with Asiedu Nketia.
He declared that in an effort to persuade the party delegates to keep him as Chairman, he would highlight his accomplishments to them.
In highlighting some of his accomplishments, he said that compared to the 2018 elections, when he assumed the chairperson role, he was able to secure more seats for the party in the 2020 elections. He also mentioned the accomplishment of electing the first Speaker of the House from an opposition party in the nation’s history.
“I don’t know anything. What I know is that my tenure as chairman is not over… I will pick forms when nominations are opened and ask delegates to look on my works and vote for me.
“I will go and account to them and tell them to look at the indicators. Where I took the party from in 2018. The seats we had in 2018 and the seats we got in 2020, the votes we had in 2018 and the votes we had in 2020.
“Our good performance that for the first time in the history of our party, we have a Speaker from the opposition party which is historic.
“If nothing else, I’m proud of the group I worked with because I’ve worked with them. I congratulate each and every one of my national, regional, and constituency executives. The delegates need to be impressed by our work and decide to keep us,” Ofosu Ampofo added.
On December 17, the NDC is anticipated to pick its national executives.
