MTN to educate customers on cybersecurity

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has joined the global community in an effort to raise awareness of the value of cybersecurity, best practices, and the necessity for a coordinated effort to stop online fraud and breaches.

The theme for the October Cybersecurity Awareness Month campaign is “Defending the Digital Line.”

Launching the month-long campaign, the Chief Information officer of MTN Ghana, Mr. Bernard Acquah said, “This October we will focus on the “people” part of Cybersecurity, providing information and resources to help educate users and ensure all individuals make smart decisions whether on the job or at home – now and in the future. With so much of our lives spent online, it’s more important than ever to take a proactive approach in protecting yourself and the organization you work for.”

Mr. Acquah added, ‘’Security is the responsibility of all of us and I urge you to take advantage of this month’s activities to build the requisite knowledge required to protect the organization and yourself from cyber attacks’’.

Customer-based awareness messaging via social media and SMS with an emphasis on sub-themes like “Phight the Phish,” “Cybersecurity Common sense,” etc. are among the planned activities for the month.

Additionally, there will be interactive sessions with second-cycle students and parent-teacher associations at a few chosen primary schools in the Accra, Ashanti, and Western regions.

A public discussion about the issue for the month will also be organized virtually with a seasoned IT expert in cyberspace.

To promote the cause, MTN will also work with others, form partnerships, and take part in initiatives run by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications and the Cybersecurity Authority.

From the year 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its worst and there were more online interactions than ever before, MTN Ghana began offering cybersecurity education to its consumers.

Experienced figures like Awo Aidam Amenyah and Mr. Carl Sackey have alternated in educating MTN stakeholders on child online security and other types of cyberattacks.
