Let him finish with IMF bailout first – Nana Addo to anti-Ofori-Atta MPs

Ken Ofori-Atta’s as finance minister is being demanded by Majority Caucus in Parliament to resign, but that dream can only happen after Ghana completes its talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The program will be disrupted, according to the President, if Mr. Ofori-Atta’s appointment is terminated.

At a Jubilee House meeting with the irate MPs, Nana Akufo-Addo made a call for peace.

According to reports, the MPs were dissatisfied with the appeal and continued to demand the Finance Minister’s resignation.

Ken Ofori-Atta has been allowed three further weeks to complete the IMF negotiations, as requested by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Thus, on Tuesday, October 2022, they convened a news conference to express their unhappiness and seek the resignation of Charles Adu Boahen, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Finance, and Ken Ofori-Atta.

The dissatisfied Majority group’s spokesperson, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, who represents the Asante-Akim North Constituency in parliament, stated to the media on Tuesday that the dismissal of Ofori-Atta and Adu Boahen will assist boost confidence in Ghana’s economy.

“We are by this medium communicating our strong desire that the president changes the Minister of Finance and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry without further delay in order to restore hope to the financial sector and reverse the downward trend in the growth of the economy,” he stated.

The Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency Hon Eugene Boakye Antwi in an interview with Prince Nii Ade (Dr Cash) on Otec FM’s flagship program Dwaberem this after confirmed that the president has invited them to the Jubilee House to find lasting solution to the problem.

“The recent development within the economy is of major concern to our caucus and our constituents. We have made our grave concern known to our president through the parliamentary leadership and the leadership of the party without any positive response.” Hon Boakye Antwi stated during the phone interview this afternoon.

“Before we (MP’s) returned from our recess, we gave the Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu our concerns to be given to the President but unfortunately after the meeting, he (Kyei Mensah) came and told us there was no positive response”

“We again took our concerns to the NPP national chairman and General Secretary to intervene but all to no avail” Hon. Eugene Boakye stated.

Additionally, the Minority in Parliament has submitted a motion to condemn Ofori-Atta.

In view of the nation’s current economic situation, which has forced government to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund, several Ghanaians had pressed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Mr. Ofori-Atta from office (IMF).
