Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s Finance Minister, has vehemently denied claims that he intentionally misreported statistics to the country’s parliament.
One of the seven justifications offered by the Minority to call for Mr. Ofori-Atta’s dismissal was the claim that he misreported statistics to Parliament.
Ofori-Atta, though, denied the accusations in a statement to the parliamentary committee looking into a vote of censure against him, calling them sad and entirely false.
According to Mr. Ofori-Atta, who has served Ghana with honesty, he would never intentionally mislead Parliament about the health of the nation’s finances.
“The issue of misreporting is not just unfortunate but also untrue, I never misreported data to parliament. I wish to say that deliberate misreporting is completely not true. I have served with integrity,” On Friday, the Finance Minister briefed the Committee.
The Minority in Parliament submitted a resolution for a vote of censure against Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, stating seven accusations against him, including conflict of interest, financial irresponsibility that caused the Ghana Cedi to collapse, and egregious economic mismanagement.
Prior to the hearing, the minister made a formal request for more information and greater details about the motion’s justifications, while also voicing concerns about the committee’s authority.
