One District One Factory, the government’s flagship initiative, has been labeled a failure by the minority in parliament.

The program, in the Minority’s opinion, has not succeeded in significantly reducing imports into the nation.

The government’s decision to stop providing foreign exchange support to importers of certain foods, including rice and chicken, is what prompted the Minority’s statement.

The government must start implementing policies that benefit the populace, according to Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the ranking member of the parliament’s trade, industry, and tourism committee.

“Unfortunately, as we speak, this government’s flagship policy of One District, One Factory…has that been able to really address one problem of the things we import? Can we point to one factory in the last seven years and say because of 1D1F, we are no longer importing rice or poultry?”

The Minority in Parliament has also made it known that it would closely examine the funding the government is providing for the National Cathedral.

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu promised that no question would go unanswered when the 2023 budget was presented for discussion on Tuesday, November 29. She cited several disputes and a lack of transparency in the project’s construction as issues that needed to be resolved.

The construction of the structure has been fraught with controversy, as many Ghanaians continue to wonder if it is wise for the government to fund what is allegedly President Akufo-Addo’s personal promise to God.

While ensuring that the Minority Caucus is not opposed to the construction of such a monument, Haruna Iddrisu said that the discussion lacked crucial details on the financial allocation, purchasing, and other issues during a post-budget engagement in Ho.
