According to Dr. Kwame Asah Asante, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not dismiss Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta because the two men are related.
He said that if the finance minister Ofori-Atta hadn’t been connected to him, Akufo-Addo would have sacked him long ago.
Dr. Asante said that it is not desirable for presidents to install their relatives in senior government posts during an interview with Peace FM that Ghanatodayonline.com monitored. He cited the difficulties Akufo-Addo is having removing Ofori-Atta from his position as the reason for this.
“I am not in President Akufo-Addo’s mind, but as a political science lecturer, I can give an indication as to why he is refusing to sack Ofori Atta. Aristotle, who is considered the father of political science, said that a president can employ anybody, he wants, but he should be careful when he is employing his family and his friends.
“The reason Aristotle gave was that it will be difficult for the president to reprimand his relatives whom he has appointed if they don’t perform well in their roles. And I think this is the point our president has gotten to now.

He remarked in Twi, “Our leaders sometimes are unable to communicate their struggles to others.
Dr. Asante added that the president’s conduct will undoubtedly have an impact on the chances of the ruling New Patriotic Party winning elections (NPP).
Ofori-dismissal Atta’s from his position, he said, has reached a stage where the NPP’s council of elders ought to step in.
