The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Augustus Andrew Nana Kwasi and 38 other constituency chairmen have backed the ticket of the current National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo ahead of this weekend’s national delegates meeting.
According to Nana Kwasi, NDC’s performance in the 2020 general elections in the Ashanti region was impacted by the incumbent national chairman of the NDC.
Nana Kwasi said that in 2020, because to large resources granted to the party by the incumbent chairman, they were able to win back the New Edubiase seat they had lost to the NPP in the 2016 elections.
Therefore, he has advised all Ashanti region delegates to vote against Asiedu Nketia and to keep Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
“My big boss Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is in the Ashanti region to wrap up his campaign. I’m very happy for the massive welcome you have given him. I’m proud to lead him to every corner of the region to meet all the delegates who will be voting in Accra next weekend.
“I’m very proud that you have all responded to my calls when I invited you all to come and meet him. What you have done clearly explains that Ashanti NDC is clearly under my control. Because when I called you responded,’’ he noted.
As he concludes his campaigning ahead of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) national delegates conference, which will be held in Accra this weekend, the incumbent Chairman of the NDC got a thunderous welcome on Monday in the Ashanti region.
Prior to a private meeting with the Ashanti regional executives, the party’s Ashanti regional chairman, Augustus Andrew Nana Kwasi, asked party delegates in the area to vote overwhelmingly for the outgoing chairman.
He declared his commitment to seeing that the incumbent, whom he characterized as a modest team player, be supported by all delegates.
He emphasized that Ofosu Ampofo’s charisma would ensure the NDC’s success in the 2024 election if he were to be re-elected.
In addition to endorsing the current Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for re-election as National Chairman of the NDC, Ernest Afayam, the constituency chairman of the Nhyiaeso Constituency, spoke on behalf of the alleged 38 constituency chairmen in the area.
