NPP plead with GBA to punish NDC lawyers over 2020 election petition

Richard Ahiagbah, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications director, is pleading with the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to take action and penalize the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) attorneys for spearheading an election petition claim that is based on fabrications and lies.

The NDC had to challenge the results of the 2020 election in court without the collated results since its IT system broke, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the current general secretary, was seen admitting in a leaked recording to some party members in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement dated Wednesday, December 14, 2022, Mr. Ahiagbah made the decision.

He described it as sad and a waste of both human and judicial resources.
He thinks that punishing the attorneys will assist to prevent such occurrences in the future and restore sanity to the political climate surrounding the nation’s election-related conflicts.

Additionally, he warned members of all political parties not to drag any government backwards by fighting in court without having their facts straight and complete.
