50 infants born on Christmas Day at the Kumasi Maternal and Child Health Hospital (MCHH) and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) received gifts from MTN Ghana.

The telecommunications behemoth makes the gesture every year as a way to wish moms and their newborns a happy holiday season and to congratulate them on a safe birth.

Along with GHS 100 worth of airtime and the hampers filled with various infant goods, the two institutions’ labor wards also received seven boxes of hand gloves.

Mr. Charles Osei Akoto, Senior Technical Head, Northern Business District of MTN Ghana, stated that throughout the years, MTN Ghana has made it a habit to welcome newborns on Christmas Day in all regional capitals.

He added that MTN was also giving new mothers hampers to cushion them in the recent economic crisis in forty hospital across the country.

The items were baby diapers, wipes, creams, powders, socks and other basic needs of baby mothers.

According to him, the business supplied airtime to the hampers since it anticipated that the women would be contacting loved ones to let them know their infants had arrived.

“This year we are also giving the mothers airtime because we are much aware that they will break the news to their loved ones and even take pictures and share with them,” he stated.

He praised MTN consumers for remaining loyal to the business and reaffirmed that it will continuing doing charitable giving as part of its corporate social responsibility.

MTN Ghana was lauded for the gesture by Madam Evelyn Osei Sraha, the midwife in charge of the labor ward at MCHH, who said it was admirable.

She took the opportunity to advise expectant mothers to prioritize going to prenatal appointments in order to prevent difficulties during labor.

She emphasized that regular prenatal care attendance was the most effective strategy for the nation to reduce maternal mortality and asked all stakeholders to support efforts to prevent unnecessary maternal deaths during childbirth.
