In case he wins the 2024 presidential election, Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims he will lead a “lean” administration.
Mr. Kyerematen declared in a recorded video that he would integrate various ministries, departments, and agencies to enhance operational effectiveness as he entered the NPP flagbearaship campaign.
“The architecture of Government will be overhauled by consolidating some existing ministries, departments and agencies.
“This will mean running a lean Government structure that would ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of Government services,” he said.
That strategy, according to Mr. Kyerematen, was a component of a package of legislative initiatives known as the “Great Transformational Plan,” which, if put into effect, would revolutionize all facets of the economy and bring wealth to the populace.
Mr. Kyerematen, who has been vying for the presidency since 2007, resigned from his position as minister of trade and industry last week in order to advance his campaign.
He said in his Tuesday night speech that he will run for the NPP’s flagbearership when the Party formally opened nominations.
He expressed his gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for accepting his resignation and giving him the chance to work for his administration.
The COVID-19 epidemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, according to Mr. Kyerematen, have conspired to “stampede” the nation into a catastrophe of “unprecedented proportions.”
He asserted that he had no doubt that the country’s request for assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would help to rebuild economic confidence.
“This is the 17th time that we are going back to the IMF. We promised never to go back but we have gone back. One of the lessons that we have learnt from the recent development is that Ghana’s economy is still fragile, vulnerable and susceptible to both external and domestic shocks.
“It is primarily as a result of the fact that our economy is highly dependent on the export of commodities with little or no value addition,” he said.
Mr. Kyerematen claimed that in order to prevent future trips to the IMF, the nation needed a new strategy for creating a self-sufficient economy.
He declared that if he were to win the next presidential election, he would establish himself as the “transformational leader of our time” and continue the work of earlier presidents.
“I will initiate and lead the implementation of the Great Transformational Plan of Ghana, which will cover the period of 2025 to 2030, in my capacity as President in order to achieve this strategic aim of changing our dear nation to become the bright light of the new Africa,” Mr. Kyerematen added.
