At the fourth day of the Public Accounts Committee Public hearing, the Interior Ministry, led by the Deputy Minister Hon. Naana Eyiah appeared before the Committee.

In response to a query cited in the 2020 Auditor General’s Report on Ministries, Departments and Other Agencies, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, revealed that, police officers at Takwa divisional CID mentioned only 40,000 out of 190,000 CFA France and $8,100 dollars as total amount of money retrieved from one Nana Akakpo and three others in 2016.

The IGP explained that, the police in Tarkwa, on usual patrols, came into contact with four people in a vehicle and found the foreign currencies mentioned above with them. He told the Committee that those currencies were sent to the American Embassy and the Ivorian Embassy for authentication. He noted that Ghana Police is still waiting for responses from both embassies so that they can conclude their investigation.

The IGP also use the opportunity to state categorically that Ghana Police service does not have anything against Christianity or prophecies but the manner at which those prophecies are carried or communicated to the public. He explained that communication of such prophecies most at time leads to creating fear and panic in society and the police can’t allow such incidents to happen.

Also appearing before the Committee today was the Ministry of Food and Agriculture led by the Acting Minister Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Ministry of Roads and Highways led by Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, Ministry of Trade and Industry with their Deputy Minister Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi and the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, which was led by the Deputy Minister, Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah.
