Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the government’s spokesperson on governance and security, has reaffirmed his support for Ken Ofori-Atta, the beleaguered minister of finance, calling him one of the finest finance ministers since the nation’s freedom.
He claims that despite calls for the Finance Minister’s resignation due to claimed economic mismanagement, he is happy with Ofori-Atta because he has the skills necessary to turn around the nation’s prosperity.
“This same Finance Minister who people are calling for his blood is the very man who took us very successfully out of the IMF programme and helped us produce the 7 percent rates of growth that we have before the COVID, he is one of the best Finance Ministers since 1957,” Palgrave
Boakye-Danquah revealed to Accra-based Original TV’s Isaac Boama Darko monitored by Ghanatodayonline.com.
He said that despite the country’s economic difficulties stemming from the actions of the recently-exiting National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration and how it handled the economy, the current Finance Minister is capable and will deliver.
According to him, Ofori-Atta demonstrated his abilities by supervising the Akufo-Addo administration’s early triumphs.
He continued, “I think he’s as determined to get us out of this mess as he was when he started our administration.
Parliamentarians from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have demanded the urgent dismissal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
The majority caucus made the case that Mr. Ofori-continued Atta’s tenure in office is detrimental to the endeavor to rebuild the nation.
In a statement to the press in Parliament today, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, the group’s representative, called for the dismissal of Charles Adu Boahen, the Secretary of State for Finance who has even resigned.
