The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Women’s Wing in the Ashanti region has denied the assertion made by the party’s regional Women’s Organiser that they helped pick Dr. Kwabena Duffour’s nomination forms for the party’s Presidential Primaries.
The Deputy Regional Women’s Organiser, Phyllis Manu Manassian, said the assertion made by Mrs. Gloria Huze was eminently false while speaking at a news briefing held by the Women’s Wing.
She claimed that no meeting had been held to make such a choice and that the women’s section had never helped select nomination papers for a specific candidate running in the presidential primary.
Mrs. Manassiah stated that they have no plans to publicly back any of the four party members who have chosen to submit applications to run in the elections.
She said that because they are moms, they will treat all of the candidates equally because they are all their sons.
She urged the National Executives of the party to sanction the Women’s Organiser to serve as a deterrent to others who intend to do the same.
Gloria Huze, the Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser, took the form for Dr. Duffour and delivered it to the party’s offices with a group.
She claims that because he cares about the wellbeing of the people, the lawmaker will be the opposition party’s best choice for the 2024 election.
According to Madam Huze, the NDC will need a brave candidate like Dr. Duffour to lead it in the 2024 presidential elections if it is to protect the populace, especially women, from the current government.
After former president John Mahama, industrialist Ernest Kwaku Kobeah, and Kojo Bonsu, a former mayor of Kumasi, he is the most recent member to take up his forms.
The selection of candidates must be completed by Friday, February 24.
The two-day event would serve as a prelude to the procedures for the party’s internal elections, which will pick the NDC’s presidential and legislative candidates on May 13, 2023, to run as the party’s candidates in the general election of 2024.
The cost of the candidacy papers for prospective parliamentary candidates is GH5,000, while those for prospective presidential candidates must be obtained straight from the NDC’s General Secretary’s office.
