The late Ghanaian player Christian Astu’s family expressed its profound gratitude for the kindness and support received after their loved one tragically perished in the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey.

The support provided by the government, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Ghanaians during this trying period is particularly appreciated by the Twasam family.

Family spokesman Robert Ani said during an interview with the media that words cannot properly convey how grateful the family is for Christian Atsu’s passing.

“The support of government and Ghanaians has been overwhelming. First, I want to thank President Akufo-Addo for taking a keen interest right from when the incident occurred. The President has been very helpful. We just want to say thank you to him and Ghanaians also. The support has been overwhelming. People have been calling, visiting and offering the support they can. So far, I will say that it has been overwhelming”, he said.

Christian Atsu, 31, was found deceased under the debris at his position in the Turkish province of Hatay last Saturday following the 7.8 magnitude disaster.

His corpse was then transported to Ghana on Sunday.

Since then, as tributes to the hero have poured in, government officials, members of the sports community, coworkers, fans, and Ghanaians in general have sent their sympathies to the bereaved family.

The government has promised to work closely with the family to ensure that Atsu is buried respectfully.

On March 4, 2023, a one-week tribute observance at the Adjiringanor Astroturf will honor the late football player.

Before the late footballer’s ultimate funeral rituals, discussions between the Atsu family, officials of the Ghana Football Association, and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif were concluded on Friday.

According to the minister, the parties will convene with President Akufo-Addo on Monday to wrap up the rituals for the late winger for Chelsea and Newcastle.
