The former presidential staffer under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama government Mr P.V Juantuah Boateng Dadson has called on the deen of all the regional chairmen and also the chairman of the Oti regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) to retract his recent ethnocentric comment.

According to Mr Juantuah in contemporary multi-party democracy, ethnocenticism, cavalier and neo-nepotism has no room to operate.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister and party flagbearer candidate, and Kojo Bonsu, a rival, have been ordered by John Kwadwo Gyapong, the dean of the National Regional Chairmen Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to first run for and win their respective parliamentary seats.

He clarified that if someone has never served as a member of parliament, he does not see how they can become the party’s flagbearer.

No one will take the other contenders seriously until they start at the bottom, according to the Dean of the NDC Regional Chairmen, who was speaking at the formal beginning of the John Mahama Campaign in Ho, in the Volta Region.

“Dr. Duffuor, have you won your seat before? Charity begins at home. Have you won it before? Who should do the donkey job for you to become a president of this country? … you have never won it; never have you won the regional chairman,” Mr Agyapong told Dr. Duffuor.

Reacting to Kojo Bonsu the former KMA boss, he said, “He is from Offinso. I’m wondering why the Ashantis are so eager to become president when they are not doing their homework well… charity begins at home; go there and win the seats for us before we can think about you.

“But if you don’t do it, and you’re showing your face, I mean, you are just giving us troubles.”

But in sharp response from PV Juantuah the recent comment made by John Kwadwo Gyapong is reckless, defective, ignominious and inimical to the advancement of democratic cohesion, most especially internal-party democracy and therefore urge the National Executive Committee(NEC) to ask him to retract that statement immediately.

In a statement issued by PV Juantuah Boateng Dadson intercepted by the editor of Ghanatodayonline.com Louis Gyamerah he stated that “This is a very unfortunate comment and must be condemned in no uncertain terms, and his person dragged before the national disciplinary committee for stern correction and direction.”

“2020 elections results shows that, apart from the Greater Accra, Ashanti region gave NDC the second highest votes so belittling the contributions of Ashanti region to the party’s success should not be entertained.”

According to him the the impression created  that ‘Asantes’ don’t vote for NDC  and it is the settler  communities that  give the party its votes is erroneous and must be discarded forthwith.

In contemporary multi-party democracy, ethnocentrism, cavalier attitude and neo-nepotism has no room to operate.

The recent statement made by John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Region’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman who happens to be the Dean of the Regional Chairmen is reckless, defective, ignominious and inimical to the advancement of democratic cohesion, most especially internal-party democracy.

A repetition of his statement in this petition which has severally been aired and published on several media platforms will be an affront to the sensitivity of our cadres and respected Ghanaian public who appreciate our collective diversity and tolerance as a party.

The founding fathers of the NDC thought it wise in forming our great party in the spirit of congress character. Probably the Chairman under reference have no idea about the meaning of the word ‘Congress’, and for the avoidance of doubt, it means diversity and social inclusiveness whilst upholding  our core values and principles that  have underpin our unity to date.

This put me in a difficult position to wonder why he continues to remain the regional chairman of Oti and the Dean of regional chairmen after his spewing of the despicable nation-wrecking comment.

The regional chairman has every right to support whoever he and his contemporaries want to support, he can engage in civil and uncivilized political jabs while campaigning, but what he cannot do is the ethnocentric comments he passed while addressing the campaign launch of H. E. John Mahama.

For him to have the temerity to say that ‘he doesn’t understand why Ashanti’s are eager to lead the party and Ashanti region’ is a no go area for the NDC to countenance it.

This is a very unfortunate comment and must be condemned in no uncertain terms, and his person dragged before the national disciplinary committee for stern correction and direction.

2020 elections results shows that, apart from the Greater Accra, Ashanti region gave NDC the second highest votes so belittling the contributions of Ashanti region to the party’s success should not be entertained.

Empirically, Ashanti’s have played a pivotal role in (P)NDC and to mention a few of distinguished the personalities; P. V. Obeng, F. A. Jantuah, W. H. Yeboah, J. Y. Ansah, Joana Appiah Dwomoh, D. O. Agyekum, Lt-Col Baryer, Yaw Boamah, Antwi Gyamfi, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, Nana Kwame Antwi, A. Kanin, WO Opoku Acheampong, Asiako Attakora, Lt-Col Asase Gyimah, K Mpiania, Akwasi  Oppong Fosu, Bimping Marfo, Nana Akwasi Agyeman, Kwame Peprah, Kwame Dwwomoh Kesse, Dei Kwarteng Esq, Owusu Bempah Esq,Jonny Osei Kofi, Samuel Sarpong, Frank Osei Mensah, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings etc  and many more have  helped and continue to work for the party.

The impression created  that ‘Asantes’ don’t vote for NDC  and it is the settler  communities that  give the party its votes is erroneous and must be discarded forthwith.

We, Asantes, who have dedicated ourselves to the noble  cause of the NDC feel marginalized and offended by the sordid statement made by John Kwadwo Gyapong who has dishonorably disabuse the ‘honorable’ title he carry.  It is imperative that he is brought to book with a strong sanction to serve as a deterrent to others going forward.

If no punitive sanctions are pronounced on him, we will deem it as the ‘floodgates’ have been duly opened. I expect the party leadership to act accordingly to restore some discipline in the party.

P V. Jantuah Boateng Dadson.
