Today, March 17, was the funeral for Christian Atsu, a former player for Newcastle United and Chelsea who perished in the Turkish earthquake in February.
Christian Atsu, who made his international début for Ghana in 2012, was buried in Accra, Ghana’s capital, in a festival-style manner.
Key figures including President Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and former President John Dramani Mahama attended Atsu’s burial ceremony at the State House’s courtyard to offer their condolences.
Marie-Claire Rupio, the late Black Stars player’s widow, has expressed sadness over the death of her spouse, Christian Atsu.
In an homage, the widow stated that since losing her devoted spouse, her life has not been the same.
Marie-Claire Rupio stated that she would use Christian Atsu’s affection as her example and that she would continue to adore him even after he passed away.
“In life, I love you dearly. In death, I do the same. It breaks my heart to lose you. You did not go alone, for part of me went with you.
“Your love is still my guide, and though I cannot see you are always on my side. You were always so full of life,” she said on Friday.
The widow further noted that “I see you in our children’s smile. You are never really gone as part of you is within them. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. But as you always say, God win.”
Following the catastrophic earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023, and left more than 50,000 people dead in both nations, Atsu, 31, was discovered deceased on February 18.
The Hatayspor team was his previous side.
