Prince Moses Zakaria, a rejected National Democratic Congress candidate for the Madina parliamentary seat, has vowed to run as an independent in the 2024 elections.

He was disqualified by the committee because he had previously held the position of General Secretary of the United Front Party (UFP), making him ineligible to join the organization.

Addressing to the media, the rejected parliamentary candidate declared his intention to see that Francis Sosu, the current member of parliament, is removed from office since he believes Sosu was responsible for his disqualification.

“Our elders have allowed Sosu and some other executives to undertake several machinations against me in Madina. Unfortunately, I have been disqualified in a way that is unfair by the vetting committee. I am declaring my independent candidature immediately. I will ensure that Sosu does not go back to parliament”, Citinewsroom.com quoted Mr. Zakaria.

“Our elders have approved many plots against me in Madina by Sosu and other executives. Regrettably, the vetting committee excluded me in an unfair manner. I immediately announce my independent candidacy. I’ll make sure Sosu doesn’t return to the legislature,” Mr. Zakaria was reported as saying by Citinewsroom.com.

Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Greater Accra Regional Secretary, commented on this issue and defended the party’s decision to remove him from consideration based on his eligibility.

“We’re having problems determining his eligibility. He belonged to the UFP. The NDC constitution’s four-year mandate requirement has also not been met by him. We were forced to disqualify him since that was the only option we could make given the rules that were provided to us, Tetteh Chaie said.

The exercise, which was conducted in every region of the nation with the exception of the Volta and Greater Accra regions, evaluates the candidates’ ability to fairly represent the party.

The vetting committee is anticipated to interview about 107 candidates.

16 of the total candidates, who hail from approximately 34 seats, are currently serving members of parliament.

The vetting will take place at Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo’s home, the Greater Accra Regional Minister.

There will be time set aside for the candidates to discuss their contributions to the party.

The date for the NDC’s presidential and parliamentary congress is November 7.
