Today, April 13, 2023, is the final day for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to nominate candidates for the Kumawu by-election in the Ashanti Region.
Election day is Sunday, April 23, 2023, and the party began accepting nominations on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
So far, eight individuals have decided to contest in the primaries.
Former Kumawu Member of Parliament Yaw Baah is among them, as are Edward Kofi Osei, Dr. Philip Bannor, Dr. Dacoster Aboagye, Mr. Ernest Yaw Anim, Madam Ama Serwaa, Kwame Appiah-Kubi, and Osei Hweree Kwame Bempah.
Several locals have vowed to vote against the NPP, which is now in power.
The locals mentioned abandoned infrastructure initiatives, such as local roads and hospitals, as well as what they perceived as constituency neglect.
Nonetheless, work on building roads in the district has started.
When Kwasi Amoako Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, visited Kumawu on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, work on the Kumawu-Afigyasi route got started right away.
The passing of the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Philip Atta Basoah, has forced a by-election in Kumawu.
He passed away in the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday morning, March 28, 2023.
