According to former president John Mahama, the Akufo-Addo administration’s campaign against illegal mining has been politicized and selective.
On his three-day Eastern regional trip, he said this to branch and constituency executives of the Atewa West and East constituencies.
Mr. Mahama, who is running for office again, claimed to party delegates that “some of our young men were arrested and convicted for engaging in galamsey because they were not New Patriotic Party members.”
“Some of our young men are in jail”, Mahama stated.
“Their excavators were seized because they were accused of engaging in illegal mining and the excavators handed over to NPP members for work”, he added.
The former president stated, “Everything has an end,” and bemoaned, “We don’t do that.”
We must all profit from Ghana’s natural resources since we are all Ghanaians, he remarked.
“Don’t worry,” he reassured the NDC delegates and supporters. “Change is coming.”
