“I want to bear the flag of this party to allow me the opportunity to bring about the essential changes in this party to stand us in a good position to win the December election in 2024,” said Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the former minister of Food and Agriculture.
In essence, he added, he is running because of “things that I witnessed to be not effectively managed in the party that nearly lost us in the 2020 election.”
He voiced worry that there were several disagreements between party executives, district chief executives, and Members of Parliament (MPs) throughout the campaigns running up to the 2020 election.
In addition to the conflict, he claimed that many party members around the nation were complaining about a lack of jobs and other issues, adding that since he had resigned from office, he had taken the opportunity to speak with stakeholders about what was needed to win the general election of 2024.
He continued, “I employed the last three months since my departure in attempting to grasp the nature of the challenges the party faced. I consulted from the polling stations through to their supervisors, who are the coordinators, to the constituency executives, to the regional and national level.
