A national probe into the accusations made against President Akufo-Addo in the Gold Mafia documentary is being demanded by the minority in parliament.

The National Democratic Congress organization claims that the claims made in the documentary are disrespectful to the future of the nation.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the minority leader, claims this.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Dr. Ato Forson stated that his caucus will not permit Ghana’s environment to be sacrificed for the advantage of a select few.

In order to determine the truth or otherwise of the claims made by arrested gold smuggler Alistair Mathias, he therefore asked for a national investigation into the problems highlighted.

“The revelation that $40 million worth of gold is smuggled out of Ghana every month is deeply concerning. Al Jazeera’s recent documentary on Africa’s Gold Smuggling mafia has confirmed that the country is being exploited by collaborators who benefit from illegal gold mining and smuggling.

“The active endorsement of these illegal activities by some in officialdom is an affront to the country’s future, and it is unacceptable to trade our environment for the benefit of a few who profit from these illicit trades.

“It is high time for a national investigation into these matters,” he posted on Facebook.

The Special Prosecutor has already been asked by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to look into the claims.

The amount of times the President and his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, have been mentioned in bribe-taking syndicates is disturbing, according to Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s communication officer.

He emphasized that when investigative reports lead to corrupt practices within the Office of the Presidency, the Presidency frequently remains silent.

President Akufo-Addo, according to a gold trader exposed in the investigative documentary “Gold Mafia” by Al Jazeera, is both his buddy and attorney.
