Following the conclusion of his term of duty in Ghana, Burkina Faso’s ambassador, who is also the dean of the diplomatic community there, H.E. Pingrenoma Zagre, made a farewell visit to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
His famous service tour, which started on August 18, 2017, when he first handed his letters of credence to the president, comes to a close during this visit.
President Akufo-Addo expressed the thanks of the Ghanaian people and reaffirmed the government of Ghana’s unwavering faith in its long-standing bilateral relationships with the government of Burkina Faso.
He said Ambassador Zagre’s tour of duty in Ghana “has contributed immensely in deepening the Ghana and Burkina Faso relations which has culminated in cooperation on a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues bordering on political, economic, trade and investment among others.”
He described President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré’s visit to Ghana on January 7, 2021, at his inauguration ceremony in Accra, as well as the high-level delegation that traveled to Ouagadougou on May 10, 2023, to meet with Captain Ibrahim Traore, the military chief, to discuss concerns pertaining to regional security.
He commended Burkina Faso for their continued support of the Accra Initiative and expressed his gratitude for their attendance at the Accra Initiative Conference in November 2022, which was attended by Prime Minister Appolinaire Joachim Kyelem da Tambela.
Regarding economic cooperation, President Akufo-Addo said “the Railway interconnectivity project and express the hope that the project would come to fruition as it would contribute to accelerated socio-economic development and further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.”
He concluded by expressing gratitude to Burkina Faso for supporting Ghana’s proposal to host the Secretariat of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and reiterating the importance of the two nations utilizing the AfCFTA to increase trade between our two peoples.
