Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a prospective flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), submitted his candidacy forms today, June 19, 2023, at the party’s Asylum Down headquarters in Accra.
He was accompanied by 22 Greater Accra constituency chairmen, KEN-WUUD Nuworsu, the co-campaign chairman and a former party official for the Volta Region, Peter Oteng Darko, the national campaign coordinator, as well as farmers, friends, and family members.
Evans Nimako, director of elections, and Williams Yamoah, director of finance and administration, respectively, received the forms.
After reviewing the forms, the party’s national executives gave him the go-ahead for fulfilling all prerequisites.
Ten candidates have so far taken up nomination papers to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position.
They include Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the immediate past Minister of Trade and Industry, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, a former General-Secretary of the Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, and Joe Ghartey, the Member of Parliament for Essikadu-Ketan and former Minister of Railway Development.
Boakye Agyarko, a former energy minister, Prof. Addai Nimoh, a former Mampong member of parliament, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former trade and industry minister, and Kwadwo Nsafoa Opoku, a specialist in energy and associated issues, round out the group.

I Filed My Forms in the Company of 22 Constituency Chairmen from Greater Accra
This morning, I successfully filed my nomination forms to contest the presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
I was accompanied by 22 constituency chairmen from the Greater Accra Region, my Campaign Chairman, Alfred Boye who is a former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party; Co-Campaign Chairman, KEN-WUUD Nuworsu, also a former Volta Regional Chairman of the party; National Campaign Coordinator, Peter Oteng Darko; Electoral Area Coordinators, Polling Station Executives, Farmers, friends, and loved ones.
My forms were received by the Director for Finance and Administration, Williams Yamoah, and Director of Election, Evans Nimako.
The national executives of the party, after going through the forms, cleared me for meeting all the requirements.
I then proceeded to address the media over my preparedness for the impending 26th August Super Delegates Conference.
I assured Ghanaians that I have laid a solid foundation at Ghana’s agriculture sector that is capable of changing the country’s economic fortunes and that I am the best candidate for the party’s flagbearer position.
