Following the death of a lotto seller who was swept away by flood water, Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency Member of Parliament Emmanuel Adjei Anhwere was chased away by incensed residents at Abuakwa Sepase.
The MP arrived at the spot to check the collapsed bridge that led to the man’s death after learning of his passing.
However, when they saw their MP, irate constituents began throwing rocks at him in protest.
It took prompt action by the Abuakwa district command of the police to subdue the enraged mob that sought to assault the congressman and, in the process, take him away to safety.
In addition to threatening to vote against him and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), the irate supporter berated the soft-spoken MP with expletives for taking their allegiance to the party for granted while protesting.
The absence of the contractor in charge of building the bridge in the area, according to MP Emmanuel Adjei Anhwere, was to blame for the tragic flooding development in his Abuakwa and the surrounding area.
He asserted that because of the issues flood waters are exposing them to, his constituents are entirely within their rights to demonstrate against him.
Due to the poor road system in the farming electorate, the MP has already been driven out of his Ashanti region constituency twice.
