The New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been accused of purchasing votes in the ongoing Assin North by-election.
In an effort to convince voters in favor of their candidate, Charles Opoku, the NPP is distributing monies ranging from GHS200 to GHS300 each person, said Dr. Forson.
Dr. Forson disputed accusations that he was involved in money distribution while speaking to media in Assin North, and he charged the NPP of attempting to deflect attention from its own acts.
He stated that he had personally observed money being distributed at 10 different places in Assin Bereku, the district’s capital, and he urged the Ghana Police Service to take action.
Dr. Forson expressed his disdain of these methods and called the donations’ sums reprehensible.
James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the NPP, and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) are the three contenders vying for the empty MP seat in the Assin North by-election.
Due to Mr. Quayson’s dual citizenship at the time he submitted his nomination paperwork, the Supreme Court declared the previous election held in 2020 invalid. As a result, the court ordered that his name be removed from Parliament’s list of candidates.
