Orphan seats, often known as constituencies without a representative of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), have now officially begun accepting nominations for the parliamentary primary.
Following the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings on Monday, April 3, 2023, this statement was made.
Candidates for parliamentary election who are interested in running in these constituencies have until Thursday, August 10, 2023, to register their nominations. Between Saturday, September 23, 2023, and Saturday, December 2, 2023, are the anticipated dates for the elections.
The party has developed comprehensive Rules and Regulations, which will be made accessible to stakeholders, to regulate the conduct of the parliamentary primary elections.
Nomination forms are available for a non-refundable application cost of GHC 3,000 made out to the National Headquarters of the New Patriotic Party in Accra.
The nomination form may be obtained from the Regional or National Secretariat through an appeal if a prospective parliamentary candidate is denied access to it at the constituency level, or it may be downloaded for a charge from the party’s website, www.newpatrioticparty.org.
A prospective member of parliament must submit a bankers draft for GHC 35,000 (a non-refundable cost) made payable to the NPP national office in order to file a nomination.
However, these hopeful parliamentary candidates will receive a 50% rebate of the filing fees in order to encourage greater representation of women, young people, and people with disabilities (PWDs) in higher political offices. As a result, they will only need to pay a non-refundable fee of GHC 17,500.00.
Every payment must be made in the form of a bank draft made out to the party. No aspirant parliamentary candidate will be prevented from acquiring nomination papers, according to the party’s leadership.
The party’s general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, expressed his appreciation for the smooth nomination process and urged qualified candidates to run in the parliamentary primary elections.
