Despite the difficulties it has encountered, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged that his administration will keep implementing innovative policies and initiatives aimed at creating a progressive and affluent country.
Speaking on Friday, July 7 at the Valley View University’s First Special Congregation in Oyibi, in the Greater Accra Region, Akufo-Addo said he had no experiences that would cause him to rethink his long-held beliefs that offering free senior high education (Free SHS), implementing the One-district, One-factory initiative, carrying out the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, and implementing digitalization were the best policies to move the country forward.
Akufo-Addo also discussed the value of education, asserting that it is the foundation for Ghana’s growth. He praised Valley View University for its dedication to offering top-notch education and asked other colleges and institutions around the nation to follow its lead.
The church also awarded honorary degrees to former Ghanaian president John Agyekum Kufuor, current chief of staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and president of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema.
Mrs. Agyemang-Rawlings, and Mrs. Osei-Opare, who were each given a doctor of science, President Hichilema received a doctor of humane letters.
Private, chartered Valley View University is located in Ghana. Campuses are located in Oyibi, Accra, and Kumasi. It was formed in 1992. Business, education, law, and theology are just a few of the many disciplines that the institution provides undergraduate and graduate degrees in.
The Zambian President, who is in Ghana for a three-day state visit, was earlier welcomed by President Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House.
Government representatives and state ministers accompanied President Hichilema.
President Akufo-Addo said he acknowledged that life had not been easy in recent times, “however, one thing for which I am certain is that there are solid reasons to hope for a brighter tomorrow and I am confident that by the grace of Almighty God that brighter future will be evident soon”.
Regarding his political path, he said that he had spent many years campaigning to become President and had been in the public eye for the most of his adult life. He also mentioned that he first came to national attention in the 1970s during the battle against the Acheampong dictatorship.
The President declared that he has joined the fight to remove military rule and bring back Ghana’s constitutional democracy.
By that point, he had already decided on the best method to run the nation to ensure that it became the free, just, prosperous, and united nation that his forefathers had envisioned throughout the struggle for independence.
“By the time I was elected President, I had a clear understanding of the vision my government had to realize during my tenure of office.
There have been good times, and necessarily there have been some rough ones too along the way that would have cowed some into giving up,” he recounted.
President Akufo-Addo stated that he was humbled by the citation and accepted the challenge it imposed on him as well as the expectation of Ghanaians. He added that it was evidence that acting decisively and carrying out one’s duties as president had its benefits, including the kind words of praise expressed in the citation.
On behalf of the recipients, former president Kufuor thanked the institution for the privilege of bestowing honorary doctorate degrees upon them.
According to him, it is an honor for citizens to support public service that promotes inclusivity and equality of opportunity that lessens prejudice on the basis of gender, religion, tribe, or social class.
