“We are carrying the same momentum to the 2024 general election”, Mr John Dramani Mahama has said.
“If history is being written about elections in Ghana, the people of Assin North will have their name written in gold,” former president John Dramani Mahama promised the residents of the constituency during the National Democratic Congress’ “thank you” trip to the area.
James Gyakye Quayson, the disgraced MP who had his 2020 win overturned by the Supreme Court because he had not renounced his citizenship at the time he originally applied to run for office in 2020, won the by-election.
“The victory in this by-election is the beginning of our march to recapture power,” Mr. Mahama stated on the “thank you” tour.
“I have faith in the Almighty God to grant the NDC victory in the next election”, Mr Mahama added.
Despite winning, Mr. Quayson is still being criminally investigated for fraud and perjury.
When addressing the subject, Mr. Mahama stated: “The Dormaahene, a respected High Court Judge, has asked to President Akufo-Addo and the Attorney General to terminate the matter since the prosecution is unnecessary. However, he received harsh criticism for his appeal.
Whatever they do, we in the NDC will continue to support Gyakye Quayson unwaveringly, whether the Attorney General decides to drop the matter or not. He will have our support in the morning, noon, and night.
