“Underdogs win all the time, it happens so don’t worry that I’m not seen as front runner, I’ve said this before and I want to repeat it, the two front-runners, they’re there by default” these are the words of Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
Despite appearing to have fewer chances of winning, New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate Kwabena Agyei Agyepong claims he is not intimidated by the “front-runners” in the upcoming primaries.
At the opening of his campaign on Tuesday, June 11, he claimed that the two candidates who are widely believed to be in the lead Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen are just there by accident.
“Bawumia is the Vice President, he’s number two so he’s aspiring to be number one, that’s normal. Alan Kyerematen has been number two electorally, for the last three elections, so he also aspires to be number one,” Mr Agyepong stated.
The Civil Engineer contends that Ghanaians should be informed of the specific policies of these candidates before making a choice.
He is confident that the plans he has put in place will ensure his victory on that score.
“It’s important for Ghanaians to find out what their stands are on major issues in the country. I’ve laid out my programme and that’s why I’ve always challenged them to have a debate.”
The New Patriotic Party’s Vetting Committee has submitted its report to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong. The report was handed over to the general secretary after a closed-door meeting on July 10, 2023.
The NPP will have its primaries in a few months to choose a flagbearer who would represent the party in the 2024 general elections, and Kwabena Agyepong is confident he will prevail.
Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia, Joe Ghartey, Alan Kyerematen, Boakye Agyarko, Dr. Konadu Apraku and Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, and former MP Francis Addai Nimo are all contenders.
