All ten candidates for the special Electoral College election have been approved by the vetting committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Kwadwo Poku, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Boakye Agyarko, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Joe Ghartey, and Francis Addai-Nimoh are among the candidates who have been declared successful.
On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, issued a press release announcing that the National Council of the party would be debating the recommendations of the Vetting Committee on July 20, 2023.
All 10 candidates have now been approved by the party’s eligibility requirements and are qualified to run in the special Electoral College election.
The committee’s recommendations will be examined by the National Council before a decision is made regarding the party’s nominee for the forthcoming election.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a special delegates conference on August 26, 2023 to choose the five candidates who will compete in the presidential primary on November 4, 2023.
According to the game’s regulations, the party will hold a special electoral college to choose five candidates for the final round if more than five candidates meet the requirements to run.
The party expects to hold the special delegates’ conference on August 26 where the special electoral college, made up of roughly 900 delegates, will convene to cast their votes to choose the five candidates if more than five hopefuls make it through to the battle.
These are the people who are supposed to vote:
- All Constituency Chairmen – 275
- All Regional Executives – 272
- All NPP Members of Parliament – 137
- Regional Representatives to the National Council – 60
- Council of Elders – 30
- Founding Members / Fathers – 123
- Reps from the Women’s Wing – 3
- Rep from the Youth Wing – 3
- Reps from the Nasara Wing – 3
- Three (3) reps from each of the 25 international branches – 75
- All National Officers
- All Former National Officers
- The President
- Former Presidents
