Police officer accused of stealing cement from colleague arrested

A corporal was taken into custody by the police in the Ashanti region’s Atwima Mponua settlement of Nyinahin for allegedly stealing and damaging property.

While on leave and stationed at Asaam in Mampong, Corporal Lansah Umar allegedly broke through the security door to his colleague’s home and took some sacks of cement with the assistance of a companion.

On Monday, June 10, at around 11 p.m., a resident of Nyinahin’s Twere Nyame neighborhood reportedly heard something strange and informed nearby neighbors.

The foreign-made security door of the compartment housing 200 bags of cement was purportedly destroyed and broken into by the corporal and 25-year-old trike rider, Mohammed Seidu, using a pickaxe.

Sergeant John Opoku Agyemang, a police driver who was on night shift, is the owner of the property.

When a police night patrol squad was dispatched to the spot at around midnight, the two departed the area while leaving a tricycle behind.

Seidu, who identified Corporal Umar as the other accomplice, was apprehended after traces of the tricycle were found.

He took the police to Umar’s house, where Umar gave a confession and showed them where he kept the 12 bags of cement.

“I was at home at midnight when I got a call that someone had broken into a house that we are we are working on,” said evangelist Richard Ampah, who observed the arrest. I arrived here, and it was accurate.

“The person used a pickaxe to break into the China door,” he continued. Although it is a pretty tough door, he was able to open it, and there were roughly 55 sacks of cement inside.

“He showed the location of his stash to the police when they came, the man claimed.

Many Nyinahin people, including Kwabena Karikari, the assemblyman for the Nyinahin Nkwanta Electoral area, and a mason who works for Corporal Lansah Umar, were astonished by the arrest.

It happens at a time when locals claim that the neighborhood has been seeing break-ins.

“I am extremely familiar with the cop, but I don’t understand why he did this. He acting in this manner surprised me. Evangelist Ampah said, “It is awful, and I am perplexed.”
