The Vice President’s campaign team has denied allegations that any Islamic organization is funding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to be the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer.
According to one David Humdeyin, a Nigerian journalist, the Bawumia Campaign is supported by an ACF-affiliated Islamic organization in Nigeria.
On social media, several people and organisations in Ghana have reproduced the same tale.
However, according to a statement made by Dr. Gideon Boako, Dr. Bawumia’s spokesperson, this story is blatantly untrue, made up, and solely serves the propagandists’ interests.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Bawumia Campaign has no funding or any linkage with any Islamic group in Nigeria or anywhere else.
“We also note that the said David Humdeyin has demonstrated a penchant for making similar claims against some persons and groups in Nigeria without any basis whatsoever.”
“The Bawumia Campaign is focused and will not be distracted by such vain untruths. The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been very diligent and transparent from his days as a scholar, banker, and politician throughout his life and will not depart from these now and forever” the statement was posted by Spokesperson to the Dr Bawumia campaign team Dr Gideon Boako on his Facebook wall.
