The Kumasi High Court convicted Dominic Afriyie, 36, also known as “GH,” to 120 years in prison with hard labor and life in prison for his involvement in a vicious robbery and murder that occurred in Atasemanso in 2021.
After a protracted trial presided over by His Lordship Abdul Razak, ESQ, a seven-member jury convicted Afriyie guilty on two charges of robbery and one count of murder. The ruling was delivered by the court on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command claims that on November 20, 2021, Afriyie forced his way into the house of Michael Dela Agbo Klu, a 43-year-old chemist and building contractor, while brandishing a rifle.
Afriyie stole GH₵1,500 in cash, two cell phones, and an ASUS Zenbook laptop during the heist before shooting Mr. Klu to death.
Following the event, police were alerted to a planned heist in the area. On December 31, 2021, at around 2:20 a.m., Afriyie and three other individuals were arrested in a Toyota Corolla bearing the license plate AS 5970-20.
When the vehicle was checked, two pistols and two single-barrel shotguns were discovered.Afriyie was the sole perpetrator of Mr. Klu’s robbery and murder, according to investigations. Despite entering a not guilty plea during the trial, the evidence led to his conviction.
The Police Service’s Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Region, Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, commended the court’s ruling and emphasized the police’s dedication to public safety.
