Less than 24 hours after a severe fire incident at Sofoline Magazine, another fire has erupted in the Kumasi Metropolis, sparking new worries about fire safety in business areas.
The most recent event took place on Monday night around 10:00 pm when flames engulfed the Anloga Market close to Afful Nkwanta, destroying over 100 shops and their goods.
Ghana National Fire Service personnel were quickly dispatched to the location and took action to manage the fire, stopping it from extending to nearby buildings and properties.
The operation faced challenges due to market congestion and a lack of segregation between wares, which contributed to the rapid spread.
Reinforcement from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations, supported by a water tanker and a functional hydrant within the market, helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining structures.
While the cause of the fire has not been officially determined, witnesses reported that the flames are thought to have originated from an area of the market containing a shoe factory.
So far, there have been no reports of casualties, but it is said that traders at the market experienced heavy losses as their goods and equipment were turned to ash.
The Fire Service has begun investigations to ascertain the precise cause of the incident, while officials reiterate demands for enhanced fire safety protocols in markets and commercial centers.
