One person was arrested at the Ashanti Region’s Council of State Elections following a confrontation between some young people who were thought to be National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizers and police anti-robbery officers.
Reports state that the altercation started when the young person disregarded the orders of the security guards stationed to guard the polling station.
The unidentified suspect has been placed under police custody.
More young people are protesting the arrest, which has heightened tension at the polling station.
After the initial location was changed, a large number of security people were sent to the new Prempeh Assembly Hall to safeguard the safety and security of the election process.
At the hall are hundreds of other armed police officers and dozens of armed Police Anti-Robbery personnel.
This comes after the first elections were marred by chaos, and several members of the media were caught up in the fray.
Candidates are waiting for the results of the elections, which are still going on despite the difficulties.
