The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared that, due to inconsistencies in the verification process during the results collation, it will conduct another elections in 19 of the 37 polling stations in Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra Region.
Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations for the EC, signed a statement stating that the Commission reached the conclusion following lengthy discussions and discussions with political parties.
Although representatives of both major political parties approved the scanned results from the 19 polling places, the Commission clarified that this was a violation of the electoral verification protocol because the corresponding Presiding Officers did not verify the results.
“In light of this, the Commission has decided to rerun the election in these polling stations to ensure credibility and transparency in the process,” the statement read.
The EC stressed, however, that it was able to obtain confirmation and verification of the results from the remaining 18 polling stations from both party agents and the presiding officers.
Therefore, there won’t be a rerun in those places.
The date of the rerun is set for Friday, July 11, 2025.
In order to provide a secure and tranquil setting for the rerun, the Electoral Commission has urged the Ghana Police Service to provide sufficient protection.
The Commission reiterated its dedication to maintaining election integrity and making sure that the people’s will is fairly represented through an authentic and transparent procedure.
