Political party representatives will not be permitted to observe the Transfer of Votes Exercise that the Electoral Commission (EC) is now conducting as of today, Monday, June 3, 2024.

This follows “violent clashes” that happened as a result of the Transfer of Votes at several of the EC’s District offices.

The Commission stated in a memo from the Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC “Regional Directors are to inform District officers not to allow Agents of Political Parties to observe the Transfer of Votes Exercise with effect from tomorrow, Monday, 3rd of June 2024.”

“Returning officers are required to give copies of the transferred voters list to political parties and candidates upon request,” as per C.I. 127 Regulation 22(8).

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the EC started the process for vote transfers, voter ID replacement in case it was lost or damaged, and proxy voting applications.

The exercise is scheduled to end on Friday, June 14, 2024.
